A WORD FROM THE DIRECTOR
Kathy's Korner
The close of academic year 2006-07 is just around the corner. I hope it has been a successful one for all of you. I imagine many of you are beginning to make your plans for the summer. Some of you will most likely travel and others may seek employment. If you travel, please consider writing a brief article about your adventures for our Fall 2007 newsletter. We’d love to hear about your experiences. If you are planning to work and have questions regarding the disclosure of your disability, we would like to point out that the article entitled Disclosing Your Disability in the Employment Process, by Cynthia Thomas at UCLA’s Career Center is on our web site.
Congratulations to all of our graduates. We are very happy for you and hope that you keep in touch with us to let us know about your next step.
Have a great summer!
Kathy

Congratulations to Our Graduates
The OSD currently has 568 registered students that are seniors or graduate students. The following students gave permission to be recognized:
Nancy Beygian –
Hi. Recently I presented my paper, "Electronic Government: Iran Reaching Out to the World" in a Web cast to the University of Tehran. It was a twenty-seven year milestone because the University of Tehran and UCLA had not had any communication for 27 years. I have also submitted the above-mentioned paper to a journal for publication. It is still under review, so I don't know if it will be published or not. I submitted a book review, which is under review currently, called Behind the Veil: An American Woman's Memoir of the 1979 Iran Hostage Crisis. My goal is to work in an academic library.
Daniel Tyler –
I will graduate cum-laude with honors in my major field of study, World Arts & Cultures, as well as my minor in Political Science. For the past year, I have engaged in producing an ethnographic documentary with the support of a grant from the Wassermann Foundation. My film, titled "Flaggers" is an examination of a subsection of urban gay culture eponymously dubbed flaggers, who use brightly colored silk flags and Oriental fans in an interpretive dance form to achieve a trance state. Ultimately, I want to share my findings with not just other academics, who may not be familiar with this type of performance art, nor simply other gay people, who might have a vague notion about flagging (if not its origins,) but I also fervently hope to introduce a new generation of students to this magnificent style of dance.
Other graduates include Amy Moore, Psychology.
We wish you the best in your future endeavors.

We encourage all of you to take a few minutes to complete an evaluation of services for 2006-07. You should have received your copy in the mail earlier this month. Please contact us at (310) 825-1501 if you didn’t.

HAVE YOU MOVED?
Please remember to let the OSD know each time you change your address in order to continue to receive important mailings regarding priority enrollment, proctoring, van transportation, etc.
Changing your address with the Registrar’s Office DOES NOT change your address with OSD.

Contact the OSD to request a copy in an alternative format.
Searching For Scholarships?
The Scholarship Resource Center is another great source for scholarships. The search for scholarships can be complicated and confusing, but the Scholarship Resource Center (SRC) is here to help guide you through the maze. The SRC maintains a scholarship database and library, and provides workshops and counseling. The SRC is located at 233 Covel Commons (206-2875).
The SRC also offers the U.S. National and British Merit Scholarships and workshops to provide UCLA students information about national scholarships such as the Rhodes, Churchill, and Truman Scholarship programs.
A great way to become familiar with the process is to sign up for one of the Free Scholarship Search Workshops. Check the SRC website for times and locations.
